Mag4you owner arrested, apniisp said to be warned by Fire Records

Cyber crime branch of FIA yesterday arrested owner of Mag4you.com from defence and took away some computers and laptops so called being used as servers. It is reported that Fire records had lodged complaint against them and the action was taken on that. Piracy or not, infringing their copyrighted material or not, but there are many things which need to be followed and there is a course of action which should be taken and the steps which are taken in many other countries having stricter copyright laws.
As I am running a network of websites and I have received several copyright complaints. What has been happening over internet should always be noted.
On my website, just as many others mag4you, etc, we all collect data available over internet. We copy them and upload on our webs. Now when someone has a problem with the content I have uploaded on my website, the website owner is contacted to remove that content. I have been contacted several times and we had to work without fail and remove the content because there is no option. We do not know which material belongs to whom but when it is notified, everyone i suppose takes the step to take down content.
Even if this does not solve, the copyright owner contacts the court of law and the court summons such websites and data centers with due time frame to take action neither of which was done in this matter.
Was this done? Suppose it was done, now second step in case if the web owner doesn’t remove the content is to contact the data center which is hosting the website. In case of mag4you, the web is hosted on 216.150.22.107. The IP is owned by United States Atlanta Peer 1 Dedicated Hosting. I may not be serious living in Pakistan but people in USA are damn serious and more serious than Fire Records and our reporting companies. They take these type of DMCA notices very very seriously. They ask you to produce either that you own the material or you have legal permission. If both are not the cases, they ask to remove the content within 24 -48 hours otherwise, the server is taken down. Being in the internet business, no website can afford to go out.
What happened is Fire Records lodged complain and FIA attacked the mag4you.com’s owner’s place and arrested him. I am 100% sure above mentioned steps wouldn’t have been taken just because the owner of the web is Pakistani and is in Pakistan so just track him down in his home and arrest because. It’s Pakistan. We all know what our police do. They arrest first and than collect evidences while they are supposed to collect evidences first and then arrest. It is mentality in Asian region that people like to save things on hard disk. There is hardly a computer in Pakistan where you can say there is no pirated content stored. Some sort of windows, music, videos, pictures which are copyrighted to someone else can always be found. The same does apply when someone has saved a music file on his mobile phone. This is the same violation of piracy.
By writing this i am not sympathizing with Mag4you, neither i take any rights off from Fire Records, but i hardly think Fire Records material would have mattered so much for mag4you to deny removal of content and go to jail? If I have anything like this on my computer, I will ctrl+delete and never back it up. Again, the owner has the first right and if he doesn’t want it to be there, just take it down. On my webs, I get several persons to upload their music. What if they register with Fire Records later and get me arrested?
All those who think that Pakistani websites are doing nothing, they must be aware of the all revenue generated by the websites running from Pakistan is much more than the over all software industry. Websites have been regularly bringing income in Pakistan and have silently played major part in running economy.
The media, who reported the incident, has no technical knowledge of the issue. They just call here and there and keep both people on the line and keep making the stories. The other day, they highlighted google translator which was linked on my website about 14 days back, and from the web i copied it, it was there about 2 months back. They have been reported football transfer news which was 6 months old. Some days back, there was a serious matter about students of Islamia University. I contacted my friend who is in that group and in the end i was answered with “please use the right forum to raise this issue” You can expect a lot of political shit to be discussed on that TV channel but you will never see a genuine matter to be raised by that group. Still the persist to be the “fastest and leading news TV channel” I believe they are never doing reporting, they are just highlighting the issue and raising that in a matter that it becomes a fight in the end.
More than that, there are many things that do not have copy rights in Pakistan. And before punishing anyone, it is responsibility of the government to tell citizens what are their limitations and people should be properly educated and have been given awareness before being punished.
